5 tips to consider when choosing your wedding photographer...
After all, your wedding day is one that must be perfect. These helpful tips are compiled from our 20 years of experience in the business.
Presence.
You want to make sure you hire someone that not only fits your personality, but knows the ins and outs of a wedding day. Capturing the day as it unfolds requires being in the right place at the right time. Only an experienced wedding day photographer can see these opportunities arise before
they happen.
At Freeland Photography we strive to capture the story of your day and seamlessly blend into the environment at the same time. Our photographers like to stay close at hand if needed, but not obtrusive. The best compliments we receive are those of friends and family that attend your wedding that comment they forgot we were even there.
Precision.
In today’s digital world many photographers rely too heavily on post production to fix their images. Anything other than perfect exposure (under or over exposure) will produce grainy images or blown highlights than cannot be recovered. Thanks to our extensive background in film, our expertise allows us to produce stunning images no matter what time of day, or what season. We switched to full digital in 2005, and now have greater control over white balances than we did with film. We color correct for skin tones, and strive for consistency in our whites no matter the lighting (tungsten, fluorescent, shade, etc.) All of this knowledge and effort helps us produce images of life like clarity. We pride ourselves in producing magazine quality images, and we feel this is a direct reflection of our precision behind the camera.
Reliability.
The foundation of any photography studio is reliability. The amount of preparation, wedding day routines (everything from flash card storage to appropriate attire), and established protocol for downloading and storing your photos are essential to making sure the worse case scenario never happens. If anything goes wrong, you cannot redo your day. A wedding professional will have backup equipment of every camera, lens, and lighting gear with them at every event. In 2009 Freeland Photography installed a state of the art computer system that insures dual backups of every file. We also store a set of your images off site to ensure protection against a fire. Because of all these rigorous criteria that we choose to follow, we have never lost a wedding. We have backup photographers that can be called to fill in under rare circumstances like an illness.
Print Release.
Nearly every photographer will give you a disc of your wedding images these days. However not all discs are the same.
Many will be copy protected. others will just be the low resolution versions of the full files. Some discs will play in a dvd like a movie, but not allow you to print or copy what is burned onto them. At Freeland Photography we will not only give you the full resolution files of your finished Wedding images, we will also give you a print release that allows you to make copies of that disc or have photographs reprinted anywhere you like. Also the “finished wedding images”, means an Adobe Certified Retoucher photoshops every image before they are burned on the disc you receive. This includes stray hairs, blemishes, color correction, etc.
Reputation.
We can get a list of requested photos prior to your day if you like. This can be especially helpful for any family and friends that are not in the wedding party.
We have had over 20 Real Weddings featured in KC Weddings Magazine and at the knot.com. Even though our work is displayed in magazines, and nearly every wedding vendor in Kansas City, the bulk of our business is still word of mouth from our brides. We are proud to be the only photography studio voted by brides “best of weddings” at the knot.com three consecutive years.
